Network Setup
How Ctrl Cloud Protects You
Ctrl Cloud is built on a zero trust model.
That means:
- No one — not even us — can log in to your server without your permission.
- Your data never leaves your hardware unless you explicitly allow it.
- All connections are encrypted end-to-end.
Unlike traditional cloud services, there’s no hidden “maintenance” account or backdoor.
You own the hardware, you control the access, and you decide when (or if) anyone can connect.
LAN vs. Internet: What’s the Difference?
Think of your home network (LAN) like the rooms inside your house — only people inside can see and use them.
The internet is like the public street — anyone can walk by, but only the things you put outside are visible.
- LAN (Local Area Network): Private. Accessible only when your device is connected to your home Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- Internet: Public. Accessible from anywhere in the world if you configure your network to allow it.
By default, Ctrl Cloud is only visible on your local network (LAN).
If you purchased a subscription for external access, we use our Zero Trust FRPS service to give you secure, hassle-free access without worrying about your network settings.
If you did not purchase a subscription, you have to faciliate your own external acces.
If You Don’t Have a Network Subscription
Without the Ctrl Cloud Zero Trust FRPS service, you have three main options:
1. Port Forwarding
Set up rules on your router so that specific internet ports forward traffic to your Ctrl Cloud.
Pros:
- Direct access from anywhere.
- No added cost.
Cons:
- More setup required.
- You must ensure your passwords and SSL are secure.
2. VPN (Virtual Private Network)
Use a VPN to connect your laptop or phone to your home network as if you were there in person.
Pros:
- Secure, private, and flexible.
Cons:
- Requires VPN server setup and a client app on your devices.
3. Local-Only Access
Do nothing — and enjoy your Ctrl Cloud inside your home only.
Pros:
- Easiest option.
- No exposure to the internet.
Cons:
- No access when away from home.
